Designrr solves a real problem, and it is worth saying which one before judging it. It is not book formatting software and does not claim to be. It is a way to take writing that already exists somewhere else and wrap it in a designed layout without opening a design application.
Judged as that, it is useful. Judged as a way to publish a novel, it is the wrong tool, and most of the disappointed reviews come from that mismatch.
What is Designrr?
Designrr is a browser-based ebook, lead magnet and flipbook builder from PageOneTraffic, founded in 2016 according to its own site. You point it at a source, choose a template, adjust the result in a drag-and-drop editor, and export.
The source is the distinctive part. It imports from a web page, a Word file or a Google Doc, and on higher plans from a PDF or from audio and video through transcription. Everything else (templates, a table of contents generator, page numbering, an AI writing assistant called WordGenie) exists to tidy up what the import produced.
What does Designrr cost?
This is less simple than it should be. The figures below were read on 30 September 2026. Source for the monthly prices: Designrr's public pricing page.
| Plan | Monthly price | Imports from | Exports |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $29 | Web page, Word, Google Docs | |
| Pro | $39 | Adds PDF | Adds EPUB, Kindle and iBooks formats |
| Premium | $49 | Adds 4 transcription hours a month | Adds HTML embed |
| Business | $99 | 8 transcription hours a month | As Premium |
| Agency Premium | $249 | 25 transcription hours a month | As Premium |
The complication is that Designrr also runs separate offer pages. According to those pages, the Standard plan is sold for a single $27 payment described as lifetime access. Designrr's own help centre describes the same $27 as an annual charge. Those are three different prices for one plan, depending on which page you land on.
That is not a reason to avoid it. It is a reason to read the checkout page carefully, note whether the word is "once" or "yearly", and watch for upgrade offers during sign-up, which several reviewers mention.
According to Designrr's terms, refunds run for 30 days on a first purchase only, and renewals are not refundable. Put the renewal date in a calendar.
What is Designrr good at?
- Turning a post into a lead magnet quickly. Paste a URL, pick a template, and there is a presentable PDF in minutes. For that job, few tools are faster.
- Working from Word and Google Docs. The draft can stay where it was written.
- Transcription on the higher plans. A podcast episode or a video becomes a text draft to edit.
- Templates. The Standard plan lists 100, which is enough to find one that does not look like a default.
- Hosted flipbooks, for anyone who wants a page-turning web version.
If the job is a short designed PDF built from existing content, that list covers it. How to make a lead magnet PDF people actually finish covers what the document itself needs, which matters more than the tool.
Where does Designrr fall short?
EPUB is not on the cheapest plan. According to the pricing page, Standard exports PDF only. If the goal is a Kindle or Apple Books file, the real entry price is Pro. EPUB or PDF explains why an ebook sold in the stores needs the reflowable file and not the PDF.
Imports need cleaning up. This is the most consistent theme in user reviews: fonts that change on import, paragraphs that break in odd places, and page breaks that have to be fixed one by one. The import saves retyping. It does not save the layout pass.
Edits happen in the layout, not in the manuscript. Once a document is imported, corrections are made in Designrr's editor. The original post or Word file does not know about them. For a lead magnet that is fine. For a book you will revise for years, the text now lives in two places.
It is not print-ready. Reviewers note there are no trim size, bleed or spine settings. KDP's print requirements, set out on its own help pages, include a PDF at the book's trim size with fonts embedded, and bleed where images reach the edge. What makes a PDF print-ready and spine width and bleed cover what a press needs.
Long documents. Some reviewers report freezes on large projects. It is anecdotal, and it is consistent with a tool built for twenty pages, not three hundred.
What do users say?
Source for the ratings, read on 30 September 2026: Trustpilot shows 4.5 out of 5 from about 1,690 reviews, and Capterra shows 4.5 out of 5 from 197 reviews.
Those are good scores. The happy reviews are nearly all the same story: a blog post became a lead magnet in an afternoon. The unhappy ones cluster around billing (a renewal charged after the refund window) and around formatting time on longer documents. Both are avoidable if you know about them going in.
How does Designrr compare?
| Designrr | Canva | Atticus | bukpress | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starts from | A URL, Word or Google Doc | A blank design or template | A manuscript you write or import | A Markdown file |
| Layout model | Template plus manual fixes | Page by page, by hand | Themes applied to the whole book | One design applied to the whole book |
| Yes | Yes | Yes, at print trim sizes | Yes, A4 | |
| EPUB | From the Pro plan | No | Yes | Yes, on the Pro plan |
| Print paperback | No | Covers only | Yes | No |
| Free plan | No | Yes | No | Yes |
| Best for | Repurposing existing content | Short, heavily designed documents | Novels and trade non-fiction | Text-led documents revised often |
Canva for books covers where Canva stops, and Atticus vs Vellum covers the dedicated book formatters. For the wider field, ebook creator sorts eight tools by what you are making, and book formatting software covers the ones aimed at full manuscripts.
Where bukpress differs
bukpress sits on the other side of one decision. Designrr imports finished content and lets you fix the layout by hand. bukpress keeps the text as a Markdown file and applies one design to all of it, so page breaks, tables and page numbers are handled by rules, and a correction is one edit and one rebuild.
That makes it the better fit for a document you will revise, and for keeping a PDF and an EPUB in step from one source. Exports carry no watermark on any plan, the free plan included, and the pricing page has the details.
It is the wrong choice in three cases, and Designrr is the right one in the first. If your content lives in published blog posts and you want to paste a URL and pick a template, bukpress has no such import: you would convert the text to Markdown first. If you want free-form, magazine-style pages, neither a Markdown tool nor a template tool is as flexible as Canva. And if you need a trade paperback, bukpress pages are A4, so Atticus or Vellum is the answer.
Turning a blog archive into a book is worth reading whichever tool you choose, because the hard part is selecting and ordering the posts, not importing them.
The verdict
- A lead magnet from an existing post, this week: Designrr does this well. Check which price you are paying.
- An ebook for Kindle or Apple Books: possible from the Pro plan up. Validate the EPUB before uploading. EPUBCheck errors explains the messages.
- A book you will keep correcting: choose something where the manuscript stays the source.
- A print paperback: not this tool.
- Writing the content with AI: treat WordGenie as a first draft. Writing a book with AI covers finishing one properly.
Common questions
Is Designrr free?
No. There is no free plan on its pricing page. Whether a trial is offered is inconsistent across sources, so assume a paid sign-up with a 30-day refund window on the first purchase.
Is the $27 Designrr offer really lifetime?
The offer pages say one payment for lifetime access to the Standard plan, while Designrr's help centre calls the same figure an annual charge. Read the wording at checkout, and keep a copy of it.
Can Designrr export to Kindle?
Yes, from the Pro plan. According to its pricing page, the Standard plan exports PDF only, and EPUB, Kindle and iBooks formats start on Pro.
Is Designrr good for printed books?
No. It has no trim size, bleed or spine settings, which a print-on-demand paperback needs. Use it for screen PDFs and ebooks.
What is the best Designrr alternative?
It depends on the job: Canva for short designed documents, Atticus for full books going to print and the stores, and a Markdown tool such as bukpress when the text will keep changing.
