Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of bukpress (the "Service"), operated by bukpress ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

bukpress is a tool for turning Markdown you write or upload into typeset documents — PDF and EPUB files — using design settings, fonts and artwork you choose. Rendering happens on our servers and the resulting files are stored for you to download.

2. Eligibility & accounts

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. You are responsible for your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us at support@buk.press if you suspect unauthorized use.

3. Plans, billing & the Foundation offer

The Free plan is available at no cost, subject to the usage limits published on our pricing page. Paid plans (Essentials, Pro) are billed in advance on a recurring basis through our payment processor, Stripe. You can cancel at any time from your billing page; cancellation stops future charges but does not refund the current billing period except where required by law. Prices may change with notice.

The Foundation offer is a one-time payment granting the entitlements of the Pro plan for as long as the Service is operated, plus any future additions to those entitlements. It is limited in quantity, it is not a subscription, and it is not billed again. Purchasing it cancels any recurring subscription you hold, since it replaces it. As with any lifetime offer, it is tied to the continued operation of the Service and does not create an obligation for us to operate the Service indefinitely.

4. Your content

You retain all rights to the text, images, fonts and other material you upload or write ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to store, process and transmit Your Content solely to operate the Service for you — for example, to render a PDF or EPUB and make it available for you to download. We do not use Your Content to train models, and we do not publish, sell or share it.

Files you export are yours. We do not apply a watermark or credit to exported files on any plan, and you may use, distribute or sell the documents you produce.

5. Fonts and third-party material

When you upload a font file, or use artwork or text you did not create, you confirm that you hold the rights or licenses required to embed and distribute it in the documents you export. Fonts imported through our Google Fonts integration are provided under their own open-source licenses. We are not a party to your font licenses and cannot grant you rights we do not hold.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to produce or distribute material that is unlawful, infringing, or that you are not entitled to publish; to attempt to break, overload or circumvent the limits of the Service; or to resell access to the Service itself (as opposed to the documents you create with it).

7. Availability

We aim to keep the Service available and reliable but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. Rendering is queued and asynchronous; export times vary with document length and load. We may change, suspend or discontinue features with reasonable notice.

8. Termination

You may delete your account at any time (see our data deletion page). We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms. On termination, your projects and exported files may be permanently deleted — export anything you want to keep first.

9. Disclaimers & liability

The Service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits or lost content.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email. Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
